True North Coastal Park Project

True North Sailing is advocating for development of an outdoor recreation-friendly park along the shores of Lake Superior in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Spanning just over an acre with 400 feet of pristine waterfront, the park is designed to celebrate the beauty of Lake Superior while ensuring accessible outdoor recreation for all.  The land has already been acquired in early 2024, our vision is to create a community space for sailing, kayaking, hiking, and lakeside exploration, fostering a deeper connection with nature and adventure.

Stay tuned as we bring this exciting project to life!

Why we are creating the park

Access to Lake Superior’s shoreline for recreation is becoming increasingly limited in the Bayfield Peninsula and the City of Bayfield itself. Many beaches in the city restrict kayak launching, while others are congested with marina traffic, making it challenging to find a quiet and accessible spot to enjoy the water. True North Coastal Park is our solution—a dedicated outdoor space where people can launch kayaks, paddle boards, explore the shoreline, and enjoy nature without the noise and hazards of the busy harbor. Our goal is to create a peaceful, outdoor recreation-friendly park that provides safe and easy access to Lake Superior for paddlers, hikers, and nature lovers alike.

Subject: Support for True North Coastal Park – Expanding Recreational Access in Bayfield Dear Bayfield Zoning Administrator, I am writing to express my strong support for the development of True North Coastal Park in Bayfield and to encourage approval of the necessary permits for driveway access, a parking area, a recreational trail, and stairs leading to the waterfront. Public access to Lake Superior for non-motorized recreation is increasingly limited in Bayfield. Many existing launch areas are either restricted or congested with marina traffic, making it difficult for paddlers and nature enthusiasts to find a safe, quiet place to enjoy the lake. True North Coastal Park will help address this need by creating a dedicated, low-impact recreational space where residents and visitors can launch kayaks, hike, and explore the shoreline. The proposed driveway access and parking area will ensure safe and responsible entry to the park, while the recreational trail and stairs to the waterfront will provide easy access to Lake Superior while preserving the natural landscape. These improvements are essential to making the park welcoming and usable for people of all ages and abilities. I strongly encourage the City of Bayfield to support this initiative and approve the necessary permits. Expanding public access to the lake is vital for our community’s outdoor culture, tourism, and appreciation of the natural environment. Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope you will support True North Coastal Park in its mission to create a peaceful and accessible recreation area for all. Sincerely, [Your Name] [Your Address (optional)]
